Morningbird //
Indie-Rock Band
Winter 2019.
To be friends before bandmates is the method behind the
madness of Morningbird.
Reigniting the retro-rock thing, the five-piece group features Max Challis on keys, John Cattini as lead guitarist, Isak Kotecki on rhythm guitar, Connor Frawley on bass, and Jacob Thompson on drums. And while they stand alone as talented instrumentalists — together, Morningbird becomes a genius greater than the sum of its parts.
The band found its roots in 2013 in Max and John’s Boston dorm room. While the guys were turning group projects with friends into bedroom recording sessions, they began to lay the foundation of what Morningbird is today.
By 2014, the group was official — building to release their self-titled first EP the following October. Then 2016 came with their first full-length album Only Believe in Love.
Both records were born from an emphasis on the instruments. They let their technical training take the lead to bring mature harmonies and synth beats into their work. But still young themselves, the lyrics consider what it means to find love, lose it, and grow into your life.
Think Glass Animals meets Queen.
The riffs were begging to be performed. But at that point, the band had still never played a live set together.
Eager to expand their work with fans and industry attention, Max and John looked to the guys down the hall. With Isak and Connor, the band went live. Then Jacob joined in 2019 to round out the five-man group.
As they’ve moved out of the dorms and grown into their own lives, it’s trust that’s remained a constant. They’ve got trust that they’ll take each other to the ER if one guy cracks his head on the sidewalk. And trust that everyone is bringing their best to the band. All of the magic is in the collaboration.
Morningbird released their latest single “Do It Again” early this December. They’re looking forward to continuing to make up for lost time with more live shows and music to come in 2020.
