SESSION ONE
Technique
One-color printing + Hand-drawn transparency
Printshop
Atelier Populaire (France)

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. Please bring a laptop to next week's session if you would like to follow along with the design demo on your own device (no software required)
2. I would encourage all of you to come to biweekly screenprint open studios at TPF. These sessions are drop-in and informal. They're a great space to dig a little deeper into the practice, beyond what we will have time to during our course. We'll continue to develop our final projects in class next week, but I would especially recommend coming to open studio if you:
- Are interested in doing a multi-color print for the final project
- Want to print on fabric
- Want to spend more time with a community of screenprinters!

WHAT WE DID + WHAT WE'RE DOING NEXT
Our first session was all about the one-color print.
Together, we took a screen that had already been "built" (coated with emulsion, burned with a design by UV light) and prepped it for printing. Once we registered the design on the print board, we used a squeegee to get ink down on paper. After every print, we back-flooded the screen with a layer of ink to ready it for the next person.
Next week we'll learn the steps involved in reclaiming a screen + discuss digital design methods for building a transparency.
